Dr Nico van der Merwe is a specialist psychiatrist in Pretoria. His practice is based at Denmar Psychiatric Hospital.

Services
Dr van der Merwe delivers both inpatient and outpatient treatment of mental illness. Inpatient care is provided at Denmar Psychiatric Hospital. Holistic care is provided via a multidisciplinary team-based approach. The team may consist of a psychologist, occupational therapist, social worker, dietitian and physiotherapist.

What happens during the 1st appointment?The 1st consultation will be be approximately 90 minutes long. Please arrive 15 minutes early for the appointment to complete the necessary documentation. A thorough history will be taken. A physical examination is also done to exclude any medical illnesses contributing to your psychiatric illness.

What should you bring along?Bring you ID and medical aid card for administrative purposes. Results of previous special investigations you have access to e.g. blood tests, EEG, CT/MRI Brain, sleep studies. List of current or previous medication with doses.

What are Dr Nico's rates?The practice only charges medical aid rates. If you don't have a medical aid contact us for the private fee. A card machine is available at the practice. No cash is accepted.

What is the cancellation policy?Appointments should be cancelled a minimum of 24 hours before the scheduled time, otherwise you may be held liable for the cost of the appointment.

Is the practice registered?The practice is registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF Number) and Dr Nico with the Health Professions Councel of South Africa (HPCSA).
